Classroom Homework Policy
No formal homework will be assigned in first grade.
It IS expected that you and your child are reading for 15-20 minutes EVERY night.
Instead of teacher-assigned homework, I would encourage you to talk with your child about what they are learning on a frequent basis. Refer to my weekly newsletter to find out specific topics of focus and ask your child to tell you what they know about those topics. Make it part of your daily discussion. Also, I encourage play, extracurricular activities, and early bedtime (8:30 p.m. at the latest, please)
Occasionally, throughout the school year, take-home projects may be assigned. Guidelines and ample time will be provided. These are, indeed, mandatory and parent support is expected.
Should a child be struggling in one or more subject areas, I may determine that supplemental practice at home is necessary and will communicate this to you. In this case, the CCS Homework Policy (see school website) will apply. .
