Class Newsletter for the Week of June 1, 2018
Academic Week:
Trick words for the week are: people, month, Mr. & Mrs. We are focused on spelling words with vowel-c at the end (example: public, plastic). In Writers Workshop, we continue to focus on writing a series of realistic fiction stories. Readers Workshop focuses on learning lessons from the characters in our stories.
In Math, we have focused on two and three dimensional shapes, identifying and applying knowledge of corners, straight sides, and types of corners that make up various shapes.
Science lessons have focused on the moon and its phases. The children are able to identify characteristics of the moon and compare it to the Earth and Sun.
Spring Field Trip:
We are going to Dutch Apple Dinner Theater on 6/5. No lunch needs to be provided. Children must wear their regular uniform with collared shirts.

Classroom Wish List:
Summer Learning:
Traditionally, within my last four newsletters, I provide ideas for continuation of learning through the summer in various subject areas. These are not mandatory; merely provided for your information. Ideas are targeted toward families who wish to have incredible experiences for little to no money.
Mathematics:
We teach the children that we use math in our everyday lives. I’ve come up with some ways to easily prove this to them.
Create a countdown to something exciting you have planned. Have them count how many days and write down all of those numbers. Then, each day, they cross off one of the numbers until there are zero days left. J
Graph chores to be done. Sticker charts are a great use of charts and help your child remember how many days they have completed their chores. It also helps you by giving them responsibility.
Give them coins to count. Skip counting is great but mixing up the coins gives them further practice, as well. Encourage them to “buy” things like treats, desserts, snacks, and electronics time using the correct amount of money, per your choice up to $1.00.
